performance: noun. An action, often responding to a request or promise. Examples: “His job performance is excellent. They will certainly give him a raise.” “We’re looking for someone who’s performance at this task is consistent.”
place: verb. To try to make a telephone connection. Examples: “I can’t place the call, the line is busy.” “Please place a call to the vice president; he’s in the Tokyo now.”
position: noun. A job. Examples: “He has a very good position with a bank.” “I want to get a new position within this company.”
promotion: noun. A higher position in rank and salary. Examples: “I received a promotion after two years with the company.” “I’m going to ask my boss for a promotion right now.”
